Bindi Irwin is all over our social media, for the best reason
This September will be nine years since the world lost Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter we all knew and loved. But it’s clear that the Irwin legacy is still going strong, thanks to his daughter, Bindi Irwin, a fabulous 16-year-old animal lover who is working to help conserve animals every single day.
Bindi was only eight when her father passed away, and we all remember her amazing poise and strength at such a young age, such as when she was on the Ellen Degeneres Show just months after that tragic day in September 2007. Now, Bindi’s grown up from a fabulous little girl to an equally fabulous young woman. She is currently in her final year of school studying business and tourism, and her plans are to work full time at the Australia Zoo to continue her father’s legacy.
“With Dad, he was the ultimate wildlife warrior and we admired him more than anything,” Bindi told E! back in 2013. “I do remember he gave me a piece of advice that has stuck with me forever. He said, ‘You have to treat animals the way you wish to be treated.’ Which is so true.”
It’s difficult to picture Bindi as anyone other than the little spunky girl in two high ponytails, but recently, social media has been totally wide-eyed over a selfie Bindi took that proves that she is NOT Peter Pan, and has totally blossomed into a confident young woman. Bindi captioned her selfie beautifully: “To be beautiful means to be yourself,” she wrote. “You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” She then finished off the caption with a quote by S. Westerfield: “What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.”
It’s clear by surfing through Bindi’s Instagram that she is a teen who will not be stopped, at least certainly when it comes to animal preservation. For example, she recently shared a picture of a Boobook owl named Robin, who was hit by a car and is being treated by the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital:
She also celebrated World Turtle Day with a beautiful pic of herself hanging out with a tortoise (she claimed that tortoises deserve appreciation, too!):
But that’s not to say that Bindi only has love for zoo animals. We also are totally swooning over a picture she took of herself cuddling her super cute pup:
Bindi, thanks for preaching for the animals and for following your dad’s footsteps (in your own Bindi way!). We are huge fans of your work and can’t wait to see the amazing things you do with the Australia Zoo!
