Bindi Irwin celebrated her 17th birthday by remembering her dad in just the most beautiful way

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost 9 years since we lost Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin. His daughter Bindi Irwin has spent the last several years doing her father’s work and carrying on his legacy, educating the world about wonders of the animal kingdom.

Bindi turned 17 this weekend, and she took this time to remember her dad with just the most lovely and loving tribute.

“Dad is and always will be my living, breathing superhero,” she told ET. “I’m very lucky to have such a beautiful family.”

“I’d just like to carry on in dad’s footsteps,” Bindi added. “I think that Dad’s spirit and passion lives in every single one of us.”

“He always used to say that he didn’t mind if people remembered him or not,” she concluded. “He just cared if they remembered his message, and that’s what we’re trying to do. To make sure that his message lives on in all of us.”

On her actual birthday, she posted the following gorgeousness to Instagram:

We are in awe of Bindi’s positivity and kindness and are inspired by how this girl honors the memory of her father by doing everything in her power to make this world a better place.
