Billie Lourd’s impression of her grandma Debbie Reynolds is lovely and adorable
We can’t even imagine what Billie Lourd is going through after losing her mom Carrie Fisher on Tuesday and then her grandma Debbie Reynolds passing on Wednesday. The Scream Queens star didn’t share a last name with her mom or her grandmother, but these three generations of women shared an incredible bond and were the best of friends.
Earlier this month, the 24-year-old was on an episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers earlier this month and Lourd spoke about the famous ladies in her family and their relationship with her grandmother.
“First of all, she gets really upset when I get called ‘Carrie Fisher’s daughter.’ She wants people to call me ‘Debbie Reynolds’ granddaughter.’ It’s very offensive to her,” Lourd joked to Meyers. “She does not like to be cut out — not at all. She started it. It’s her fault.”
She then recalled the time Reynolds sat her down to give her some advice by reading real entries into a diary Reynolds wrote when she was younger. Reynolds was trying to scare Lourd away from acting with horror stories from her old diary, but it didn’t work.
“She called me down to her house and had this binder of these diaries that she had written when she first started doing Singin’ in the Rain. And she sat me down on her couch and said, ‘Okay, I need you to read these, dear’ — in her ’50s actress voice,” Lourd said, in a near-perfect impression of her grandmother.
“I started reading them to myself, and she said, ‘No, dear. Please read them out loud.’ And I started reading them and they’re all in second-person. They are somewhere along the lines of, ‘You’re sitting in the makeup chair. It’s five in the morning. They’ve pulled out all your eyebrows and you have no eyelashes left. Your hair is a shell of itself, and all you wanted to be was a gym teacher.’”
As Meyers laughed, Lourd offered her perspective on the chat. “So, I read this out loud and kind of looked at her like, ‘Okay?’” she explained. “And she looked at me so earnestly, with her hands crossed in her lap, and was like, ‘Are you sure you still want to be an actress, dear?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I think it’s different now. I think I’m going to be able to keep my eyebrows. I don’t think they’re going to put a wig on me — I’ve got, like, long hair. It’s fine. So I’m gonna go for it.’”
It’s silly and heart-breaking and we think Lourd is doing an amazing job carrying on the family name.
