Billie Lourd’s throwback celebrates May the 4th with mom Carrie Fisher and Chewbacca

Every day since her mom’s passing has probably not been easy for Billie Lourd, but some days must be tougher than others. And today — May 4th — is most likely one of those tough days, since Star Wars fans have turned it into a day to honor their favorite film franchise. But Lourd posted a photo of her mom, Carrie Fisher, on May 4th — also known as “May the Fourth be with you” — as a way to not only remember her mother, but to acknowledge the fandom that so loved Fisher.

The photo is of Fisher holding a younger Lourd with Chewbacca walking behind them. Lourd’s message? Two shooting star emojis and another that represents a mother and daughter with a hashtag just for today:

“??‍?? #maythe4thbewithyou”

Although Fisher isn’t in her iconic Princess Leia garb in the photo, it’s such a touching moment that shows the love that Fisher had for Lourd. It also gives fans a sweet look at the beloved Star Wars characters, Leia and Chewie.

Lourd hasn’t been shying away from embracing her mom’s legacy since Fisher passed on December 27th, 2016, as she presented at the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida, in April — in a dress inspired by her mom’s iconic Princess Leia look no less.

While speaking there, Lourd even recited her mom’s famous speech from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.”

Just as the love of Star Wars is something that will live on in fans’ hearts forever, so is the love for the woman who brought Princess Leia to life. And knowing that Lourd herself can celebrate May 4th in her own special way should be truly meaningful to Star Wars fans everywhere.
