Bill Nye, The Movie is happening. We are so ready for it.

The science lessons Bill Nye taught during his show Bill Nye the Science Guy have stayed with documentary filmmakers David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg their entire lives. They are — in their own words — hardcore Nye fans, and decided it was about time someone made a movie about him. A movie not just about the man behind the bow tie, but about Nye’s never ending quest for SCIENCE.  On a scale of one to YASSS, how ready are you for The Bill Nye Film?

With a just-launched Kickstarter campaign, Alvarado and Sussberg are ready to bring The Bill Nye Film to the big screen, with Nye’s help, of course. As the two write on the Kickstarter page, “When we learned that Nye was doing something new, working outside of the classroom to champion science and space exploration and the fight against climate change, we knew we had to make this documentary.” And even better, Nye’s giving them full access to his life, so they can film everything. The two guys describe themselves as feeling “giddy” over this, and we’re just plain super jealous.

The duo plan to follow Nye around the world and film everything, from debating climate change to, “[hanging] out with Neil deGrasse Tyson.”

And what better place to turn to for funds than the internet, which is full of people who grew up watching Nye in science classrooms, and have started watching him again on Netflix? This documentary will be for “people who care about science and knowledge and bow ties”— it’s pretty safe to assume we all fall into that category.

Plus, the perks for donating to The Bill Nye Film are amazing. There are donation levels where you can snag doggie bowties (doggie lab coat not included), signed Nye books, signed Nye old school VHSs, and signed personal limericks — because Nye loves limericks. Even more impressive, though, is if you can pledge $10,000, Nye will go to your school of choice and actually teach a science class. Isn’t that our life-long DREAM?

The Kickstarter runs until August 13th, which gives us plenty of time to gather our pennies and remember that SCIENCE RULES and that together we can change the world. If all goes according to plan, the film should be imported for the beginning of 2017. The guys have started filming, with short scene from the film has already completed. Try not to get too nostalgic watching it.
