Bill Nye is the only one who could make this commercial for laundry detergent so delightful

If you think long and hard about it, there’s definitely a science to cleaning your clothes. That’s why we were thrilled to see Bill Nye’s Super Bowl commercial for detergent last night. While it’s always a joy to see Nye, watching him mix chemicals and talk about laundry is extra delightful.

As imagined, Nye had a few stains on his lab coat after a brief (yet fascinating) chemical explosion of wine and cran-grape juice (which, we’ve been there.) This is just proof that, as we imagined back in middle school, cool science explosions happen pretty much daily in Nye’s life.

For a big job like that, you’ll obviously need a strong detergent — we mean, nobody wants to continue replacing lab coats. (That’s probably a bit expensive.)

When our favorite science guy is happy, the world just seems a little brighter.

There was a lot of anticipation being built up for this ad. Persil released a teaser video days before, and while we pretty much knew it’d be Nye, we were still happy to have our suspicions confirmed.

For those of you who might not have been born in the ’80s and ’90s, here’s a little bit of information on Bill Nye. During the ’90s, Nye had a show on PBS called Bill Nye The Science Guy . It was definitely popular in science classrooms, since it demonstrated a lot of key science concepts, from human bones to reptiles and amphibians.

(And, uh — hey. Even science teachers need a day to recuperate, so showing a video on occasion was totally the way to go.)

The show aired for five seasons, and lasted for 100 episodes — so it was definitely seen as being a hit.

Even better, Nye helped make science fun and approachable. In a way, he presented the subject much like Alton Brown educates on food and food science.

Do we trust Nye when it comes to laundry products? Of course we do. This commercial was definitely one of our favorites, and we hope to see him in future commercials for Persil!
