And here’s Bill Murray singing about the Cubs on ‘SNL’ in case you need something perfect today
If there’s one thing that’s kept spirits alive during a time where a particularly nasty presidential campaign has dominated the media, it’s the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series after a 108 year drought. To celebrate, three Cubs players and Bill Murray sang about the victory during Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live.
Joining outfielder Dexter Fowler, retiring catcher David Ross, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo, number one fan (and probably honorary Cub), Murray led a rousing rendition of “Go Cubs Go” after being named the first ever winners of Weekend Update’s The Voice.

As the “band members” introduced themselves, co-host Colin Jost noted that Murray looked familiar and asked if he used to work at in studio 8-H. Murray, who was a cast member on SNL for the third, fourth, and fifth seasons of the show, responded,
“I did. But that was so many lifetimes ago. Right now, for me, it’s all about our music.
In addition to participating in their Weekend Update segment, Ross, Fowler, and Rizzo, were good sports and also acted as strippers alongside host Benedict Cumberbatch and featured cast member Mikey Day in a bachelorette sketch.
For its part, the long-running show was thrilled to welcome the new World Series Champs.

The World Series was an incredible set of games, which included a nail-biting game seven overtime. The series was hard-fought and stressful for everybody, the players from both teams, the Cubs and Cleveland Indians, the fans, and most notably, Bill Murray.
Murray made headlines throughout the series by being a very enthusiastic fan who always provided the cameras with a reaction, cheering during a victory, or looking particularly uneasy during a Cleveland lead.
To sign off Weekend Update, SNL tipped its hat to the Windy City and flew the W.
