“Big Little Lies” Season 2 is coming, but not nearly fast enough
After a *lot* of back and forth, it appears we will be catching up with our favorite Otter Bay moms in a second season of Big Little Lies.
HBO programming president Casey Bloys recently confirmed to reporters that a potential Season 2 is in early development, adding that Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty has been asked to come up with a story for the second season to follow. After the limited series was a smash success, a second season has been heavily speculated, with stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman — who also served as producers for the series — revealing they’d love to return for more.
The critically acclaimed series — which was recently nominated for a whopping 16 Primetime Emmy awards — follows a group of Kindergarten parents in the wealthy city of Monterey, California, in the months leading up the school’s trivia night where a parent is killed. While the book resolved everything pretty neatly, the limited series left a few loose threads, which could *definitely* be explored in a second season.
Right now, it seems like the sole hold-up to a follow-up season is executive producer and director Jean-Marc Vallée, who recently said there was no reason for a second season.
“There is no way; there’s no reason to make a Season 2, he recently harrumphed. “That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen.
Acknowledging Vallée’s hesitation, Bloys admitted that first the network and BLL producers need to see if they *actually* have a story for a second season and then he thinks Witherspoon and Kidman could work their magic to get him on board.
So it looks like things are looking up for a second season but we shouldn’t expect it for a while. If they’re looking for any story ideas, we think we have a few!
