Naomi Watts was almost in “Big Little Lies” with BFF Nicole Kidman, and we’re so bummed that didn’t happen
Between Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and more, the cast of HBO drama Big Little Lies was seriously star-studded — and one other mega star almost joined them.
That star being Naomi Watts, a close friend of Kidman’s.
In an interview with The Guardian, Naomi Watts admitted that she nearly took a role in Big Little Lies.
"We talked about doing that together, she said of Nicole Kidman, also an executive producer on the TV series. “I might have been in it."
We loved Season 1 of Big Little Lies and its powerful cast as it was. But we have to say, Watts would have been a stellar addition! The question now being, who would Watts have played? She didn’t say, but she did profess her love for the show, calling it “so good.”
So Big Little Lies didn’t work out for Watts, but she’s certainly kept busy — she stars in Gypsy, which premiered on Netflix last month.
Watts’ former partner Liev Schreiber stars in Ray Donovan, and his work is part of what motivated her to take on her TV drama.
“I’d seen up close Liev doing Ray Donovan. I thought it made a lot of sense. Lots to do with the logistics," she said, referring to her family being able to reside in one place.
Gypsy is currently streaming on Netflix, and Big Little Lies fans are currently begging HBO to make another season. If it gets the green light, maybe consider adding Watts to the mix? K, thank you, HBO!!
