Meryl Streep will star in “Big Little Lies” Season 2, and no joke, this might be the best casting ever

In what could be the best casting news ever — and you know this isn’t even an exaggeration because, hello, this is HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY we’re talking about here — Big Little Lies has enlisted Meryl Streep for Season 2.

That’s right, MERYL STREEP has been cast in Big Little Lies, and we are full-on freaking out.

The esteemed actress — who is hot off an Oscar nomination for her role in The Post, with Big Little Lies’ Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard recently earning SAG Awards — has been cast as Mary Louise Wright.

If you recognize her last name, there’s good reason for that: The character is the mother of Celeste’s (Kidman) abusive husband, Perry Wright (Skarsgard), who — SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER — meets his maker in the finale of the once-limited series, which was created by David E. Kelley and adapted from Liane Moriarty’s novel. (Perry, by the way, will be back for Season 2, which will depart from the original source, in some capacity — likely flashback.)

Now, what else do we know about Meryl Streep’s Mary Louise? Well, she’s apparently “a woman who is concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry’s death. She arrives in Monterey searching for answers,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Don’t know about you, but that last part in particular definitely has us intrigued.

We’re desperate to know what kind of answers.

Like, will she be looking into the circumstances surrounding Perry’s death? That certainly seems within the realm of possibility, and we’re very nervous for some of our all-time favorite TV ladies: Celeste, Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern), and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz).

But for now, we’ll put those nerves away and relish in the ah-mazing casting news. As if we couldn’t be more excited about Big Little Lies Season 2, now Meryl Streep will be a part of the show?! Honestly, this is definitive proof that dreams come true.
