‘Big Bang Theory’ lovers, rejoice: It looks like it’s geting SUPER serious between Sheldon and Amy
One of our favorite TV couples just became closer… in the bedroom, at least. Yes, the big night came for Sheldon and Amy (AKA Shamy) on the Dec. 17 episode of The Big Bang Theory, after five years together. And since we love them as though they’re our friends IRL, we couldn’t be more excited about what this means for their relationship. Ahem, do we hear wedding bells in their future?
“This episode was a huge step for them, but at the same time, they are still very much Sheldon and Amy,” said showrunner Steven Molaro to ET. “…We felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship,” said Molaro to CBS. “And we’re so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes.”
Of course, who could forget their breakup earlier this season, which we never thought we’d get over. But, there’s nothing like some space to remind two people that they really just want to be with each other. Now, there’s suspicion of Sheldon’s family engagement ring popping up down the line, too—especially after seeing it appear in the Season 8 finale episode. Of course, that was pre-breakup, so now, anything can happen.
“At some point in the near future, it will come up again,” Molaro told ET. “It’s not going to immediately, but we certainly have not forgotten about it.” But, since there was just a wedding on the show a few months ago, we probably have to wait; we can’t get too greedy. Besides, proposals are the best when they’re a surprise, right? Even for the audience.
What did the co-stars think about their relationship escalating and talk of a wedding down the line? “Clearly, Amy didn’t need a ring to get into the sack,” said Mayim Bialik, laughing. “Putting the ‘bang’ into the ‘theory,’ I guess,” Jim Parsons said to ET. On a more serious note, he said, “I would say no, but I didn’t think that we’d be filming what we’re filming now, so what do I know?”
Professor Proton was right on.
And fans on Twitter certainly liked where Thursday’s episode went.
“I think it’s been an amazing ride for them so far and I think there’s a lot more to come for them,” Molaro said to ET. “They’ve shared this intimate moment, but they still have years and years of learning about each other and loving each other more to come.” Aww. We couldn’t agree more and can’t wait to see what happens with them next.
You can catch up with The Big Bang Theory on CBS on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
