Beyoncé’s 90-minute Made In America set blew our minds
Beyoncé pulled out all the stops during her 90-minute set at Budweiser’s Made In America festival over the weekend. Between eight outfit changes, a small (but notable!) Destiny’s Child resurgence, and her inspiring Maya Angelou tribute, Beyoncé treated the audience to a wealth of buzzworthy moments.
But one performance, in particular, had a certain spark to it.
Just before breaking into her power ballad, “Diva,” Beyoncé opted to play audio of MMA queen Ronda Rousey’s famed “Do-Nothing B*tch” speech.
Those of you familiar with Ronda Rousey know she’s not once to mince words! “I have this one term for the kind of woman that my mother raised me to not be. And I call it a do-nothing b*tch,” Rousey said in previously recorded audio Beyoncé played for the audience. “A kind of chick that just tries to be pretty and be taken care of by somebody else. That’s why I think it’s hilarious when people say my body looks masculine or something like that. Listen, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than f—ing millionaires, doesn’t mean it’s masculine. I think it’s femininely badass as f— because there’s not a single muscle in my body that isn’t for a purpose. Because I’m not a do-nothing b*tch.”
Rousey showed her appreciation by posting a photo of Beyoncé’s track playing on her Instagram.
UFC preseident, Dana White, followed suit by tweeting a video of Beyoncé’s performance.
Rousey wasn’t the only whose words were honored that evening. Beyoncé paid tribute to Maya Angelou by reciting her classic (and ever-so pertinent), “Phenomenal Woman.” Bey completed her 90-minute set with empowering hits like “Ring the Alarm,” “Run the World (Girls),” “Flawless,” “Single Ladies,” and “Halo.” Nicki Minaj was a particular fan of the latter:
Nicki wasn’t the only one hyped up on Bey during the performance. In fact, husband Jay-Z was seen passionately singing along to “1 + 1” in the audience:
And Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden was (understandably) flattered with one of her outfit choices:
Beyoncé’s 34th year is off to a pretty good start, wouldn’t you say? Shall we celebrate with a little “Diva”? Am I asking too many questions?
