Beyoncé wasn’t totally happy about *this* aspect of her wedding

While we understand that no wedding can be absolutely perfect, you would think someone like Beyoncé’s would be PRETTY close. She’s gorgeous, rich, and knows how to get shit done. But apparently even Queen Bey wasn’t totally thrilled on her big day for one reason in particular — the dress.

Here’s the story. Bey’s mom, Tina, revealed in a recent interview on the Today show that Beyoncé let her mom design her wedding gown. Tina makes a living as a fashion designer — she has a line at Walmart and designed Destiny’s Child’s outfits for years (she even wrote a book about it called Destiny’s Style: Bootylicious Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle Secrets from Destiny’s Child!). So, it only made sense that Momma Knowles would also design her wedding gown. But Tina got the sense that maybe Beyoncé didn’t LOVE the finished product.

She explained:

“She was so sweet to let me do that. She came back later one day and she said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress.’ Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart.”

Aw, poor Tina! The dress is stunning, but we all have different taste, right?

This is one of our only insider glimpses into Bey’s super-secret wedding to Jay-Z in 2008. In an interview with Essence in 2009, Bey talked about her decision to keep her wedding and her relationship closed off to the public. “[Not speaking] controls your brand,” she said. “It controls what you want to put out there and kind of forces people to talk about what you want them to talk about.”

She also said, “What Jay and I have is real. It’s not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It’s real.”

Regardless, it seems like, at least from the footage we do have from Lemonade, that Beyoncé thoroughly enjoyed her big day, even if the dress wasn’t exactly how she pictured it.
