Beyoncé surprised Colin Kaepernick with an award, and Twitter is weeping with joy

Viewers were shocked last night, December 6th, when Beyoncé presented Colin Kaepernick with the Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. While Kaepernick knew he would be receiving the award, he had no idea Queen Bey would be the one to present it to him. (Talk about honor on top of honor.)

While on stage, the Lemonade singer said she was “proud and humbled” to be presenting the award that’s given to “former athletes and sports figures who embody the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership and philanthropy as vehicles for changing the world.”

Bey added:

"Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion, only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception, to change the way we treat each other, especially people of color."

In his acceptance speech, Kaepernick said he plans to continue to speak up for equality “with or without the platform” of the NFL.

Twitter was all smiles watching Beyoncé and Colin on stage together.

Beyoncé now has one up on her husband, Jay-Z, who said in an interview last week with the New York Times that he hadn’t yet met Kaepernick, though he’s been supporting him from afar. Jay-Z even dedicates one of his songs, “The Story of O.J.” to Kaepernick at his concerts and wore a jersey with the former quarterback’s number on it when he appeared on Saturday Night Live earlier this year.

Congrats, Colin! You deserve it.
