Beyoncé has given her support to the Women’s March on Washington
Ahead of this Saturday’s (January 21st) gathering, Beyoncé has thrown her support behind the Women’s March on Washington.
Originally starting as a Facebook group for concerned women and grown exponentially into a global movement, the Women’s March on Washington aims to show that “women’s rights are human rights” in the face of the current socio-political uncertainty. Want to get involved? Here’s what you need to know.
Indeed, people on social media have been sharing the stories as to #WhyIMarch, and a whole heap of badass celebrities, including the likes of Katy Perry, Scarlett Johansson, Chelsea Handler, Zendaya, Amy Schumer, Cher, and Uzo Aduba, are heading down to the march to show their solidarity with the cause.
Now Beyoncé has added her name to the long list of supporters of the Women’s March on Washington.
In a rare social media post, Beyoncé voiced her support for and helped promote the event, which takes place this Saturday (January 21st). The star said that, along with her foundation Chime for Change, she was 100% behind the action.
"Together with Chime for Change, we raise our voices as mothers, as artists, and as activists," she wrote on Facebook. "As #GlobalCitizens, we can make our voices heard and turn awareness into meaningful action and positive change. #WomensMarch."
Beyoncé’s support for the event comes after fellow singer Fiona Apple wrote a song for the march titled “Tiny Hands.”
“We don’t want your tiny hands, anywhere near our underpants,” the song goes.
