‘Beyoncify My Boyfriend’: The Best Thing On the Internet This Week
Breakups are always awful. Even the ones that are completely mutual or long in the works can leave you feeling unmoored and weirded out and sad. Which is why this teenager’s solution to getting over her breakup blues struck us as basically genius: Instead of cutting out your ex from all those lovey couple shots, just cover them with Beyoncé.
On her amazing Tumblr Beyoncify My Boyfriend, Cassandra Blackwell began putting up pictures of her and her recent ex-boyfriend with a little improvised Photoshop in them. “Breakups suck. You know what makes them easier?” Blackwell wrote. “Re-imagining your happiest times together with none other than Queen B.”
The images aren’t slick or expertly airbrushed. They have more of a makeshift feeling of cutting and pasting from old issues of US Weekly. And that’s really the point. Blackwell just wanted something funny to distract her from the aftermath of a hard situation. And it worked: The blog quickly went viral, with people posting outtakes of her couple shots all over social media.
“I think it’s doing so well because everyone can relate to it,” she told Elle. “It’s just fun and innocent and I think that’s why everyone is enjoying it. I made the blog for my friends and never expected it to get like this.”
“When you go through a terrible breakup, you feel miserable and down in the dumps. Beyoncé exudes so much confidence, empowerment, sexiness—the qualities we forget we have in ourselves when we’re going through a breakup,” Blackwell explained.
Very true. But, Cassandra? We think you’re #flawless.
