Betty White has strong words about what happened to Cecil the lion

We are all still so upset and angry about the death of Cecil, the iconic lion killed by American dentist Walter Palmer on a hunt in Zimbabwe. Legal action is currently being pursued by the Zimbabwean government, with an extradition request pending for Palmer and the two men involved in the hunt already under arrest (and since released on bail). Meanwhile, here in the U.S. many are speaking out against trophy hunting and the death of a beloved national icon.

Betty White is the latest to add her voice to the conversation. As a long-time animal rights activist (who has even written books on the topic) and member of the Los Angeles Zoo Board of Trustees, she’s long stood against animal cruelty. In an AP interview, while promoting her new animal-focused programming block on the Discovery Channel, White had this to say:

“You don’t want to hear some of the things I want to do to that man. It’s such a heartbreaker. You can’t even talk about it, and to see this king of the jungle and personifying it in every way, this gorgeous creature. How can somebody do that?”

White has previously said she’s, “loved animals since the womb,” and as a young girl her dream was to be a zookeeper or forest ranger (but those jobs weren’t available to women at the time).

It’s no surprise that a woman who loves animals as much as White does has some very strong words about this whole Cecil the lion tragedy.

We’re right there with you, Betty.
