Bethany Hamilton’s incredible, brave life now includes a baby

Bethany Hamilton: surfer, role model, fighter, and one of the most inspirational women ever. Many know of her story: she’s been a passionate surfer ever since she was a small child, but in 2003, she tragically lost her left arm to a shark attack, when she was just 13 years old. But that didn’t stop her from getting right back on her board and continuing to live her biggest dream: surfing on the big, blue ocean.

Now, she can add one more amazing thing to her list of life accomplishments: being a mother. She and her husband, Adam Dirks, whom she married in 2013, have just welcomed their baby boy into the world.

Bethany posted a picture on her Facebook page of the couple holding the baby, and it’s absolutely beautiful. “Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world,” the caption read. “Born June 1st, 7.9 lbs. and 21 [inches long]. He is named after his great grandpa Tobias [sic] meaning ‘The goodness of God.’ Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!” She also posted the picture on her Twitter, adding the hashtag “#stokedmomma”.

They look so in awe of their beautiful baby boy. OUR HEARTS.

The couple announced that Bethany was expecting in February of this year in a video, according to TODAY. “I’m about 22 weeks, which is about halfway there,” Hamilton said in the video. “It’s been a pretty crazy last four months finding out that we’re gonna be parents. Life’s kinda gonna be changing and [we’re] kinda just starting to prep for bringing a new little being into the world. It’s all really exciting, though.”

And, of course, at the six-month mark in March, a very pregnant Bethany celebrated by surfing. Kick ass.

That means they can say little Tobias surfed while he was literally in the womb. Bethany, you continue to be an inspiration, living life like the rock star you are, and never letting any obstacle get in your way. We have a feeling we’ll be seeing Tobias on the waves before he can even walk! (Please, take pictures for us, OK?)
