This is the best state to live in for mental health services

More than half of all Americans in need of mental health care actually get it – but some states are way worse than others when it comes to mental health coverage, according to a new study.

Mental Health America’s annual State of Mental Health report found that Connecticut is the absolute best state to receive care, thanks to its greater amount of accessible mental health care providers.

Massachusetts, Vermont, South Dakota, and Minnesota rounded out the top five. And the report lists Nevada as the worst state for mental health care services. Joining Nevada at the very bottom of the list are Arkansas, Arizona, Oregon, and Alabama.

Researchers used 15 different criteria to create the list. The study used data collected at the state level from 2011 to 2014.

According to the study, Nevada falls last on the list due to a dire shortage in care providers.

The report also found that 56% of Americans with mental illnesses never receive treatment

“Too many Americans are suffering, and far too many are not receiving the treatment they need to live healthy and productive lives, said Paul Gionfriddo, president and CEO of Mental Health America. “Mental illness touches everyone. We must improve access to care and treatments ... and early intervention for everyone with mental health concerns.
