Here are the best dressed stars at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, in our humble opinion
Awards season typically lands in the fall and winter months, so we love that the MTV Movie & TV Awards happen in June, because it means our favorite celebrities show off their fun, summer fashion on the red carpet—while hopefully snagging the coveted golden popcorn statue, of course.
At this year’s show, which aired on Monday, June 17th, the stars did not come to play. From bringing out a mix of bold prints and bright colors, as well as so many shimmery metallics, celebrities proved that anything goes on an MTV red carpet. You won’t find many classic ballgowns or boring black tuxes at this awards show, and that’s what we love about it.
Here are some of our favorites of the night, from red carpet newcomers like Lizzo and Lana Condor to our longtime style icons like Jada Pinkett Smith and Melissa McCarthy.
Lizzo
The songstress was serving up old Hollywood glam with her hair but straight ’90s cool-girl vibes with her lime green dress, matching eye makeup, and dad sneakers. Lizzo shined in a feather-collared dress by Christopher John Rogers ahead of her performance at the show.
Jada Pinkett Smith
The Red Table Talk host was on hand to accept the Trailblazer Award, and looked stunning in a sparkly silver suit with black pumps and silver jewelry.
Aubrey Plaza
The Child’s Play actress looked like a grown-up Wednesday Addams in a glittery, black-and-white minidress with ruffled detailing by Miu Miu. Plaza wore her hair in a sleek pony and added a coordinated black clutch with sparkly detailing and silver sandals.
Kiernan Shipka
Rocking a fun, printed dress featuring Fendi’s signature print alongside pops of neon, Shipka kept her accessories simple to let her dress be the star of the show. Flawless.
Tiffany Haddish
These days, it’s just not a red carpet until Tiffany Haddish arrives. This time, she looked elegant in a custom, metallic Jonathan Simkhai dress featuring a dramatic, ’80s-inspired puff sleeve. She completed the look with coordinated Stuart Weitzman sandals, a simple updo, Le Vian earrings, and a Maxior ring.
Lana Condor
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before‘s Condor looked sweet and sophisticated in a printed, Alice McCall dress, also with bold sleeves. She kept her hair sleek and straight, finishing her look with Swarovski jewelry and Jimmy Choo pumps.
Melissa McCarthy
McCarthy has been killin’ it at every awards show she graces, but we are swooning over this glittery metallic jumpsuit. She wore black platform sandals and her hair in loose waves, adding a pop of color with a deep red lip and keeping California cool with oversized sunglasses.
Daniel Levy
Even though the women were the standouts of the night, we’d be remiss not to mention the internet boyfriend and Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy, who looked dapper in a red tuxedo by Alexander McQueen with a black-and-white Burberry shirt. Of course, he wore his signature black frames to top it all off.
Zachary Levi
Serving as the host of the evening, the Shazam star looked handsome as ever in a blue suit by Paul Smith, a coordinating blue shirt by Anzo, and black shoes by Christian Louboutin.
Tessa Thompson
We were living for Thompson’s outer space vibes. The Men in Black: International actress looked like a futuristic princess in an oversized silver suit jacket by Thom Browne and the coolest platform loafers we’ve ever seen.
There were so many epic fashion looks at this year’s show, and it’s clear that celebs had fun dressing up and hitting the carpet. So much slayage, indeed.
