Best Coast celebrates jazzercise and burgers in their rad ‘Feeling OK’ video

Best Coast is one of those bands that has such a specific sound and vibe. Early hits like “The Only Place” and “Boyfriend” made them “the California band,” and well, they’re certainly amazing at capturing the hazy, sun-soaked SoCal vibe. Their new album California Nights, released in May, carries on their trademark sound, and now one of the best tracks off the album has got a music video to go along with it.

“Feeling OK” is a heady summer jam, a song as lush and vibrant as the LA sunset. Singer Bethany Cosentino’s voice is direct yet languid, and delivers lyrics laced with both hopefulness and anxiety: “I took my own advice for once / I gave it up, I gave it up / I know someday I’ll find it / where I, I least expect it.” The chorus is a wave of sound which crests and crashes into a mantra: “I’m feeling OK” repeated ad nauseam.

The video takes this sentiment and channels it toward . . . fitness? That’s right: The video for “Feeling OK” begins with a jazzercise montage, and segues into a call-to-action for active living. Cosentino and bandmate Bobb Bruno don some pretty retro workout outfits while playing tennis, riding the exercise bike, and doing, uh, floor exercises? (Or in Bruno’s case, being surrounded by and eating burgers.)

It’s a weird, quirky video from a band that’s certainly both, but it all comes together. At the very least, it’s got us thinking about investing in some ’80s style exercise tapes and gear. Take a look and listen below:
