Best Celebrity Nail Art of 2013
Whoever said that nail art would slow down in 2013 was out of their mind. Now more than ever, nails are the perfect accessory, especially if you’re in the public eye. Since celebrities keep stepping up their nail game, nail art continues to be on trend, all year round. It seems like everyone is always psyched to show off their nails! Who wouldn’t want to walk their fingers down E!’s red carpet mani cam?
2013 was a big year for celebrity nail art, so I’ve compiled a list of my absolute favorite celebrity nail art from the past year. Let’s get started!
Lily Allen is almost always sporting an immaculate set of nails. I’m still recovering from seeing this money mani by nail artist Naomi Yasuda on her Instagram a few weeks ago. The combination of dollars, gold and 3D embellishments is nothing short of perfection.
Vanessa Hudgens had one of the best manicures for Valentine’s Day. I am loving this simple, chic black heart mani, which works perfectly with her stiletto nail shape. She showed off this set at the Jenny Packham Fall 2013 collection show back in February.
Ke$ha‘s nails from her “Crazy Kids” video were another one of my favorites for this year. I love the pairing of pastels with gold, plus the index finger accent is an excellent touch.
Wimbledon requires competitors to wear almost all-white, but this year, Serena Williams brought her own sense of style to the court, sporting neon orange nails with different designs on every finger. It seems like Serena took a break between training and tennis matches to stop by the UK’s coolest nail salon, WAH nails.
Zooey Deschanel is a very active celebrity in the nail art game, and I am a HUGE fan of her red carpet manicures. Remember the retro TVs at the 2012 Emmys or a movie reel for the 2013 Golden Globes? This year, these monochrome geometric nails had me swoonin’, created for the 2013 Emmys by the incredible Tom Bachik.
Hailee Steinfeld attended this year’s Comic Con in San Diego to promote “Ender’s Game” but ended up stealing the show with her pop art nails. Like most Comic Con attendees, Steinfeld went all out with her Lichtenstein style designs, with “pow’s,” zig zags, dots and eyes, and her thumbs featured The Ender’s Game Dragon and Salamander army symbols. She even had her character’s named (“Petra”) painted on her ring finger. She said that the set took about three hours, but it was sooo worth it.
Kelly Osbourne commissioned the help of her rocker dad to reveal her gorgeous engagement ring on Instagram and Twitter. Kelly chose a sparkly silver polish to match the ring (with middle finger cross accents), while Ozzy rocked classic block with gold cross embellishments. Kelly and Ozzy got their nails done at esNAIL in Los Angeles. What better way to bond with your dad than over manicures?
Rachel McAdams wore this neutral half moon manicure to the premiere of To The Wonder. I love the contrast of the black dress with nude and white nails. McAdams commissioned the help of celebrity manicurist, Jenna Hipp. The secret to this look: it’s not actually polish. Hipp used her NCLA Nude Moon Nail Wraps, which can last up to two weeks if applied correctly.
Words cannot express my excitement for GIRLS to return to HBO on January 12th. Allison Williams gave her Girls an accent nail shout out at The Hollywood Reporter’s Emmy Party. The rest of her nails were lacquered in nude polish, which helped the black and white accent stand out even more. Now, if only Marnie could get it together…
Katy Perry is another celebrity who spits some serious nail game, so it was hard to choose just one manicure! I especially like this look that Celebrity manicurist Pattie Yankee created for the Met Ball 2013. According to Perry, she was channeling her inner Joan of Arc in an amazing Dolce & Gabbana dress.
