Apparently Benedict Cumberbatch’s mom didn’t think he was attractive enough to play Sherlock, and, ma’am, we beg to differ

We’ve never been shy about voicing our love for the incomparable Benedict Cumberbatch. That talent, that voice, that face! Yeah, we’re obsessed and not even sorry.

So you can imagine our shock when we found out that Benedict’s mom didn’t think he was handsome enough to play Sherlock. WHATTTTTT?!

Yep, in an interview with Time Out London, Sherlock’s creator Steven Moffat said, “Benedict’s mum didn’t think he was good-looking enough to play Sherlock.” He went on to say that Cumberbatch himself is pretty shocked that so many people consider him really, really, ridiculously good-looking.

"He never thought of himself as good-looking and everyone casually agreed with him. He still regards it as preposterous that he's become this sex symbol."

Okay, can we just say that this 100% makes us love Benedict Cumberbatch even more? There’s nothing better than a super talented (and let’s be real, super attractive) person who doesn’t put much stake in their looks. We’ve always found it’s the “late bloomers” among us who become the most awesome and endearing human beings, and we think that Benedict is a perfect case in point.

And if you’re wondering where you can find your favorite British detective, the new season of the BBC’s Sherlock is scheduled to premiere January 1st, 2017. The first episode of the season is reportedly titled, “The Six Thatchers,” and we officially can’t wait.

And of course, Martin Freeman will reprise his role as Watson, because we seriously couldn’t have handled it if he hadn’t.

Happy watching!
