Ben & Jerry’s latest politically-minded ice cream flavor is Pecan Resist, and yes, we can!
Ben & Jerry’s latest politically-minded ice cream flavor is Pecan Resist—rhymes with We Can Resist—and resistance never tasted so sweet. The limited batch chocolate ice cream is loaded with white and dark fudge chunks, pecans, walnuts, and fudge-covered almonds.
In honor of the new flavor, Ben & Jerry’s is donating $25,000 to four different organizations—Color Of Change, Honor the Earth, Women’s March, and Neta—all of which “resist the Trump administration’s regressive and discriminatory policies and build a future that values inclusivity, equality, and justice for people of color, women, the LGBTQ community, refugees, and immigrants.”
Ben & Jerry’s has often used their ice cream as a platform for their politics—they launched the Empower Mint flavor ahead of the 2016 election to encourage voter turnout—but this is their loudest take.
"The company cannot be silent in the face of President Trump’s policies that attack and attempt to roll back decades of progress on racial and gender equity, climate change, LGBTQ rights and refugee and immigrant rights—all issues that have been at the core of the company’s social mission for 40 years," Ben & Jerry's said in a statement on Instagram.
Artist Favianna Rodriguez designed Pecan Resist’s label, which she called “a new flavor to lick injustice and champion those fighting to create a more equitable nation for us all.” She also added that it’s important to “recognize when a business is using its platform to push for love, justice and a green planet, [so] let’s declare our resistance, march in the streets, and elect a new generation of change makers.”
The $6.99 pint is currently available on their website and at Scoop Shops nationwide.
