Ben Affleck is not coming back as Batman, according to his lil brother
Guess we shouldn’t get too comfortable with Ben Affleck as Batman (again).
Last month, a report broke that Warner Bros. was thinking of phasing out Ben Affleck as Batman, meaning that he wouldn’t appear as the character in the Batman stand-alone film The Batman or other potential stand-alone films. Then Ben himself addressed the rumors at Comic-Con’s Warner Bros. panel. He was there in support of Justice League — in which he’ll appear as the Caped Crusader, so that wasn’t awkward at all — and said: “I’m Batman.”
That has to mean that all is well and good, right?
RIGHT??!!
Well, not according to his ‘lil brother.
“I thought he was an okay Batman,” Casey Affleck joked of Ben’s performance on WEEI’s Dale & Holley With Keefe radio show. “No, he was great. He was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there.”
And here’s where things get REALLY interesting.
"But he’s not going to do that movie [The Batman], I don’t think. Sorry to say."
Um, what? Because Ben just said otherwise.
The interviewers were obviously very surprised, and the Manchester by the Sea star seemed unaware that he might have just confirmed some very big rumors.
"Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know," he added.
Maybe, maybe, this ‘lil bro isn’t totally in the know. Clearly, there’s been a lot of talk, and it can be hard to tell where things are actually — as well as what’s confirmed and what isn’t.
BUT he is Ben’s family after all, so you’d think that he’d have a bit more insight. Warner Bros. hasn’t responded to these remarks, so we’ll wait for official word.
And in the meantime, we’ll look forward to at least seeing Ben as Batman once more in Justice League, which hits theaters November 17th.
