Bella Thorne requested that this one “Famous in Love” scene be rewritten for the most feminist reason
In the same way Zendaya acted like a total boss by making her K.C. Undercover demands known, Famous In Love star Bella Thorne also asked for changes be made to scenes in her own show. Bella has always been known for being outspoken and unapologetically herself, so it comes as no surprise that she fearlessly stood up for what she believed in.
Famous In Love premiered back in April, and centers on Paige Townsen (played by Thorne), a girl who gets famous practically overnight, and is now dealing with the fallout of celebrity. While many things have changed for Thorne’s character throughout the season, one thing remained: Paige’s commitment to being a good, non-judgmental friend to those around her.
But it seems one scene almost played out differently and would have challenged Paige’s “most amazing friend” status.
But Bella wasn’t about to let that happen.
In her recent interview with Complex, Bella shared how she actually asked the writers to change a scene between her character and Cassie, played by Georgie Flores, about the moment when Paige found out that Cassie has been working as a topless maid.
“Originally that scene was written a very different way. She was just really judgmental about the topless maid [situation], Bella said of Paige’s reaction.
She went on to explain that after reading the script, she felt bad for Cassie because of how mean Paige was being to her.
“I was like, ‘I don’t want to do the scene, I don’t want to say these lines. This doesn’t sound feminist at all,’ the actress added, recalling her exchange with the show’s writers.
Thankfully, the writers were willing to listen to Bella’s feedback and facilitate the changes she requested — which allowed Paige to have a more compassionate response to Cassie’s secret. And considering how passionate Bella is when it comes to feminism and taking a stand against slut-shaming, it’s nice to see her on-screen roles reflecting those same beliefs.
