Bella Thorne reveals the reason she doesn’t take birth control (and gets real about a bunch of stuff)

We can’t stress enough how much we love a celeb who isn’t afraid to be their true selves, for better or for worse. Lately, one of our faves in this vein has been Bella Thorne. The actress has been really nailing the concept of transparency with her fans, for being honest about her sexuality, depression, acne, and more.

And now we’re learning why Bella Thorne doesn’t take birth control — which is definitely some food for thought.

“In my family, we never went to doctors growing up. I don’t like medication. I don’t even take birth control. I won’t even take Advil or Tylenol. I power through. I’m all natural,” the 19-year-old told Yahoo! Style.

We think it’s pretty cool that Thorne is down with this type of lifestyle, but doesn’t preach that it’s the decision everyone should be making or that she doesn’t practice safe sex in another way, considering there are tons of ways to do that. Birth control is absolutely the right decision for so many girls and women. We’re big supporters of birth control if that’s the right decision for your body.

The conversation came from touching on the fact that Thorne received some backlash over a tweet that she deleted soon after posting, which read, “Came to the conclusion that I struggle with depression:/ you aren’t alone.”

"I took it down because maybe some people were hurt by what I said in some way. I just wanted to say, 'You're not alone,' " she continued to Yahoo! Style. "The people you think have the most perfect lives, don't."

Thorne added, “I wasn’t saying that I clinically went to a doctor. I didn’t know it was a big thing. You can judge me for believing my beliefs.”

Both sides are understandable here, but we love her message of, “Let’s be here to support each other, and hey — what works for me might work for you and it might not, but the bottom line is: Let’s take care of ourselves, and not judge each other for what works on a personal level.”

The Famous in Love star also talked to Yahoo! Styleabout how she does her own makeup at all times — and the reason is pretty yikes-inducing (like, we can’t blame her at all).

"I got dermatitis from working on a movie, and I'll never let that happen again. Especially on movies, they don't use the right products and my skin is allergic to a bunch of stuff," she shared.

Ack! That sounds scary, and we definitely applaud Thorne’s decision based on this experience. Plus, her reasoning for not caring so much is A+, and further cements her in our “Celebs Who Keep it Real” book.

“I don’t care if my nose is shiny,” she said. “Please don’t touch me. So what? I’m playing a teenager. My nose is shiny.”

Well said, girl. There’s no such thing as a teenager without a shiny nose, from our experiences, so we’re all the way on board with as many realistic teenage portrayals as we can get. Keep rocking your true self, Bella, because it’s your best self.
