Bella Thorne reveals the reason she’s opening up about her struggle with dark and suicidal thoughts
One thing’s for sure, Bella Thorne is always open, and it’s so admirable. Recently, Thorne admitted she’s struggled with dark and suicidal thoughts. It’s her honesty about suicide that we need more of in Hollywood.
In a Marylin Monroe-inspired shoot for the Harper’s Bazaar website, Thorne looked just like the blonde bombshell and tackled some pretty serious topics.
The actress opened up about a LOT of things during her shoot and all of them are worth reading about, but we were especially struck by the fact that Thorne said she once thought about suicide — and she’s not sure why more people don’t talk about those thoughts.
"I have problems like every person, so if I can help somebody else then that's fucking dope…I want to use social media to spread goodness," Thorne told Harper's Bazaar online. "Teens are all going through different shit and nobody talks to each other about it. So if somebody could just be that first person to lend their hand, then other people will follow."
The Famous in Love star then talked about her own personal struggles in hopes it would help others in the future.
“People go through some fucked up shit. But it doesn’t mean that you have to turn completely to the dark side and be unhappy and depressed,” she explained.
"I have had really dark thoughts," Thorne continued. "When I was younger I thought about killing myself; it's very normal in a way that, if you're upset with who you are and how your life is going, you could think these things. I want people to know that it's okay to talk about it."
This makes us respect the actress even more. Unfortunately, suicide is still seen as a taboo topic, but Thorne being so forthcoming about her struggles might lead to more teens feeling like they can open up.
“The world needs more honesty,” she added. “I’ve lied my whole life about who I am and who I’m trying to be, so now, I like to keep it real.”
Who knew someone so young could be so wise? We love everything Thorne had to say in this interview. It’s SO refreshing to be so honest.
