Bella Hadid just got so real about being a feminist and the #FreeTheNipple movement
There are many young role models (who happen to be actual models) to get behind these days, but Bella Hadid is particularly special. Last month she shared the emotional letter she wrote to her mom about Lyme disease (a debilitating illness that runs in her family), and that captured our hearts.
Now, there’s more reason to climb aboard the Bella Hadid train.
During a recent interview with Glamour, Hadid spoke about the power of femininity, feeling comfortable within her own body, and of course, nipples!
She mentioned that when she reads “ten good comments and one awful comment” aimed toward her, the one negative comment still gets her down. Asked if women tend to focus on the negative aspects more than men, Hadid responds, “Humans are humans. If somebody’s mean to you, it’s not gonna feel good—no matter if you’re a man or a woman.”
Here’s where the confidence and power came in: “I’m really proud to be a woman. I love that women can be feminine but also powerful. You know, free the nipple!”
Of course, that invited Glamour to ask if she’s a fan of the ‘Free the Nipple‘ movement. Hadid responded with, “I mean, my mom is European. My whole family is European. We were always very comfortable with our bodies. It’s fine if you don’t want to show your body like that. But if a woman wants to show her body, I’m all for it. Everybody loves a little nip.”
Naturally, Glamour then asked if Hadid herself would ever “free the nipple,” or if her mom would be mad. Hadid had the a pretty great response: “I think Instagram might be madder than my mom. [Laughs.] But you know, one day. One of these days—I’ll tag you.”
We appreciate you, Bella Hadid! Check out the full interview in the September issue of Glamour.
