Bangs seemed like such a great idea a few months ago, didn’t they? Cherry blossoms were in bloom, the weather was perfect for sitting at outdoor cafés, and you rocked a total on-point Zooey Deschanel-inspired look. You rocked it hard.
Then along came summer. Ugh. No one told you that summertime bangs are notoriously difficult to manage. All you have to do is walk out the door and they’re practically plastered to your forehead.
We get it. The struggle is most definitely real.
But don’t swear off bangs just yet. There are actually a few super solid hacks to beat the heat when you’re rocking a fringe, and most of them are totally quick and simple. So if your bangs have become your summer-time nemesis, read on for a few tips and tricks to regain control of your hair!
1Anti-Humidity Hairspray is your friend.
Nothing kills bangs faster than humidity. Luckily, there are some amazing hairspray products out there that act as a barrier against that huge moist cloud known as the great outdoors. The best ones keep your hair humidity-free without looking frozen into place. Refinery 29 recommends Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Humidity Hairspray, available at Sephora for $18.00.
2Keep your forehead as oil-free as possible.
Our skin tends to be more oily in the summertime, probably because we’re sweating like maniacs. Since bangs are in such close proximity to the forehead, it’s super easy for oily skin to cause them to separate. Sigh. A good way to keep your forehead sweat-free and oil-free during the day is with blotting papers. They’re tiny, so you can easily carry them in your handbag. Here’s a list of the best ones on the market.
3Keep up with your trims!
Since bangs might not have as much oomph in the summer as other times of year, it’s important to keep them nice and trim (i.e. not weighed down any more than they have to be). If you can’t make it to your stylist, keep a headband or barrette on hand to pin them back in case of emergency.
4One word: Volume.
In order to keep your bangs looking lively when you hit the summer heat, it’s best to start the day with a little extra added lift. We recommend blowing them dry with a round brush that doubles as a hair dryer. It will change your life, guys. Trust us. Also, pro tip: Blow dry your bangs immediately when you get out of the shower.
5Dry shampoo will get you through.
If your bangs are suffering in between washings, try dry shampoo. It will instantly fix a limp, separated fringe. If you’ve never used dry shampoo before, here’s a list of the best ones out there. It’s 100% a game changer.
And there you have it! Now you can keep rocking those gorgeous bangs all year long.
