I’ve been feeling down about myself lately. Why are we sometimes our own worst enemies, listening to the negative self-talk we hear inside our heads? I am a firm believer that self-love is the most important kind of love, and the best way to remember you are beautiful is to do beautiful things for the world.

So “sprinkle kindness around like confetti,” give a compliment to a stranger, volunteer, contact an old friend you’ve lost touch with, conquer a fear, help your family, clean your apartment, start flossing. Oh–and a good playlist to start the day off right doesn’t hurt either.

Here’s a pick-me-up pop playlist to help you wake up with a smile. Dance, and remember: you are perfect just the way you are.

1. Taylor Swift, SHAKE IT OFF!

First off, I love this detour T-Swift is making into full fledged pop music. But this song is great because Taylor Swift is letting the world know that SHE HEARS WHAT YOU ARE SAYING and guess what, SHE IS IN ON IT.  Haters are gonna hate. She’s shaking it all the way to da bank.

2. Mika, BIG GIRL (YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL)

How adorable is Mika. It’s all in the title. BIG GIRL, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. I love this song because it is such a celebration of women.

3. Jessie J, WHO YOU ARE

“It’s okay not to be okay.” Sometimes we put on a facade of “fine-ness” because we think we have to be perfect for the world. It’s okay to be figuring things out, working things through, still in the thick of it. Being honest and authentic and saying you need help or are going through a hard time is sometimes the most beautiful thing a human can do.

4. One Direction, WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL

Heyyyyyy boys!

5. Beyoncé, RUN THE WORLD (GIRLS)

I mean….do I need to explain?

6. La Roux, BULLETPROOF

Thisssss timmmeee babbby, I’lll beee bulletttprooooffff

7. TLC, UNPRETTY

“But if you can’t look inside you, find out who am I to, be in the position to make me feel so, damn unpretty?”  If we don’t have self-confidence, then we are always going to be judging ourselves by outside conventions and standards of beauty. Don’t let magazines, your friends, actresses, dates, or other’s opinions dictate your own opinion of yourself.

8. Len, STEAL MY SUNSHINE

FEEL GOOD SUMMER (AND ALL YEAR LONG) SONG ALERT

9. Outkast, HEY YA

Blast this getting ready or in your car with the windows down and it is a recipe for a good day.

10. Ashlee Simpson, L.O.V.E

Old school Ashlee Simpson is VERY powerful, I miss her reality show every day (does anyone know where I can watch it?) and this video is all about having fun with your girlfriends. Yes on all fronts.

11. Michelle Branch, BREATHE

Going through a real Michelle Branch phase rn.

12. Sara Bareilles, BRAVE

All about using your voice, which is one of the hardest things to learn how to do correctly, positively, and productively. Love the message and it is such a feel good video.

13. Mary Lambert, SECRETS

People respond to authenticity. Never be embarrassed to be exactly who you are.

Have a great day, smile, be happy, and try to pay it forward.
