Taylor Swift attended her first VMAs nine years ago. Let that sink in for a second. Her music has changed so much since her first album, perfectly titled Taylor Swift, evolving from twangy country to sophisticated pop. Of course, her style has definitely developed as well – remember when Tay was all about those ringlets?

Makeup artist (and probably magician) Stephanie Flor teamed up with Time Magazine’s beauty blog, MIMI, to recreate six of Taylor’s VMA red carpet looks throughout the years, documenting the whole process in a mesmerizing minute-long video. So much shimmery eyeshadow in so little time – it’s amazing!

Watching the video is kind of like stepping into a time machine. As Stephanie highlights this model’s cheekbones, it’s fun to remember the highlights of Taylor’s incredibly career (so far).

2006: Three years after moving to Nashville at age 14 – while the rest of us were watching reruns of Boy Meets World and picking our noses – Taylor became the youngest artist ever to both write and perform a song on Hot Country Songs chart. “Our Song” jump-started teen Taylor’s career, and she held her own at the VMA’s with this Greek Goddess look.

2008: “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me” came out this year! Taylor celebrated by incorporating a gorgeous gold headband into her VMA ensemble.

2010: At the 2009 VMA’s, Kanye West memorably interrupted T-Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Music Video. The next year, Taylor returned to the award show with three times the fierce eyeliner and sleek, straightened hair. Glam with a hint of, “No, Imma let you finish.”

2012: This was literally the year of Red, both in the album and the bold lip department. Even while “We Are Never Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” launched Taylor into pop star territory, she managed to get herself a perfect pair of bangs.

2013: Taylor spent this year on an international tour singing all her chart-topping Red hits. She appeared at the VMA’s with a spicy crimson lip and class Hollywood curls. Who knew that at this very moment she was secretly toiling away on future masterpieces like “Bad Blood” and “Blank Space?”

2014: It’s hard, and kind of sad, to think of a time when we didn’t have the 1989 album yet. This time last year, all we had was the epicness of “Shake It Off” and Taylor’s foray into the land of Lob. Transformation complete!

Can’t wait to see Taylor’s look at this year’s VMAs! Check out the amazing full video here.
