The great hair-washing debate has been raging on for ages. Some people swear by washing their hair every single day, while others give it a few days before giving it the soap-and-lather. Heck, still others use reverse hair-washing or wash it with a bottle of Coke, so who even knows what’s going on anymore? Well, Selena Gomez has got a routine down-pat — she only washes her hair once or twice a week.

In an interview with Allure published yesterday, Selena explained that washing her hair every day is “actually really bad for my hair.” Tell us more, Selena! “By the third day [of not washing it], my hair actually holds pretty well,” she explained. “It just holds curls better, and it holds product better. It’s so strange, but it actually works.”

Selena does, however, have a routine that she follows every day to keep her gorgeous brown locks looking great sans washing. “I just use a little dry shampoo, and I tease it to keep the volume up. Usually by day four is when I have to absolutely wash it,” she said.

However, if you can’t go a day without washing your hair, don’t feel like you’re doing something wrong! Selena explained that this is the routine that works for her hair type, but she’s not prescribing it to every single person. “Some of my best friends actually can’t go more than maybe two days without washing their hair, and for me, I give my mom and my dad all the credit, because I have thick hair, so it gets better the less I wash it,” she said.

Well, whatever you’re doing, Selena — it’s totally working.
