Los Angeles may have a reputation for catering to the world’s top plastic surgeons, but surprisingly enough, it is not the number one destination for lip injections in the U.S. — really.

A quick Instagram scan will tell you just how popular full-bodied lip lewks have become in the past few years (holla, lip kits!). What did surprise us, however, is that the number one destination for lip augmentations in the U.S. is Phoenix, Arizona, with a 31.8 percent peaked interest in the lippy procedure as compared to the national average, according to RealSelf.

Pucker on that.

Los Angeles didn’t fall far behind with a 29.8 percent interest. San Diego took third place at 26.3 percent.

On the whole, lip augmentations have been skyrocketing in recent years. In 2016, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that lip injections increased by more than 43 percent since the year 2000. They also estimate that there’s a lip procedure performed in the U.S. every 20 minutes.

“Patients are becoming more comfortable with discussing it,” David H. Song, M.D., president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, told Self. “We’re also more able to safely deliver what patients are looking for.”

Various lip augmentation procedures range in popularity, with more common treatments include injecting fillers or one’s own body fat into the lips. The procedures are generally done in-office, and don’t take more than 30 minutes from start to finish. At around $600 to $1,200 a pop, according to Self, lip injections aren’t exactly cheap, especially considering the fact that most lip fillers must be repeated every six to 12 months if you want to maintain the volume.

We’re in the decidedly “you do you” camp when it comes to this kind of thing. But please remember, folks: No matter what you do (or don’t do) to your lips, you’re gorgeous.
