These past couple of years have seen big changes in the way we use makeup to change the way certain features look — techniques like highlighting and contouring used to be a secret that only film makeup artists used, but now it seems everyone is in on the game! Makeup artist Patrick Ta has a super easy trick for making lips look fuller without looking overly drawn on or fake, which is great since fillers are not for everyone, and you might still want a bit of a plumper pout.

Using liner to draw on fuller lips is definitely not a new trick, but new techniques are helping to make it look more natural and less clown-like. We could definitely have used tips like this oh, say, circa 1999!

Patrick tells Teen Vogue:

Well, that makes sense! By preserving the general true outline of your lip, the overall appearance will be one of poutier lips but still look like it works with your face shape and is natural. Patrick’s been working with some of Hollywood’s biggest names for a long time so he knows what he’s talking about.

We decided to take a jaunt down his Instagram to see him work his magic on his clients, and we were not disappointed!

Those lips on Sophia Bush look pretty much picture perfect, if you ask us. Do you think he did his liner trick?

We are OBSESSED with this look he created on Olivia Munn

Those, freckles, that lip, those browns, that hair! Slay queen, for we are dead.

Aren’t you just living for this neutral, soft, and romantic look he gave our fave, Chrissy Teigen?

He’s even Blake Lively’s fave, and girlfriend ALWAYS looks good — she just had a baby for crying out loud!

We could go on and on forever!

Patrick is such an amazing makeup artist and we’ll take any advice he has to give straight to our hearts! Have you ever tried over-lining your lips? Did it look good? We’ve tried it a few times and the results have been…less than successful, to say the least. But we feel confident that armed with this new information that the next time we try it will be much better!
