1 Bésame Cosmetics American Beauty, $22

Christina Wolfgram

I’ve been in love with Bésame’s lipsticks long before beauty was my main beat. As a purveyor of reds, it is difficult to choose my #1 lippie boo, especially with Bésame — they have a TON of crimson shades that are perfect for any occasion and mood. HOWEVER, if I must choose, I do have to go with the shade “American Beauty,” which the brand based on an actual lipstick from 1945. This red is blessed with some pink, which I must say, looks absolutely GORG on me, Marie, a true American beauty. — Marie Lodi, Beauty Editor

2Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Pink Melon, $14

Christina Wolfgram
This is going to make me sound like a mom, but my ride-or-die lipstick is the Mary Kay Creme lipstick in “Pink Melon.” I have the OG packaging and the updated black version, but sadly they don’t carry it anymore. So when I wear it out, it has to be a special occasion. I love the pop of pink it gives my lips. It almost looks as if I’ve been eating a watermelon or a fruity popsicle. It’s funny because I love my nude pinks, but this melon-colored lipstick brings out a different side to me, and I just love the way it makes me feel: flirty, sassy, and girly. Since they don’t have this particular shade on the site, Pink Passion is a great alternative. — Alyssa Morin, Associate Beauty Editor

My lipstick ride-or-die is this perfect shade of orange-red Tom Ford makes. It’s called “Wild Ginger” and I wear it whenever I need to feel unstoppable. I ended up with it accidentally — I had initially ordered “Red Square” by Nars, and received some pearly-pink shade by Tom Ford instead. I went to the mall to return it, and the lady at the counter whispered, “You can just exchange it,” and that’s how I ended up with Wild Ginger. It’s also incredibly creamy and hydrating for a red lipstick, and a little more playful than your standard red. — Gina Vaynshteyn, Editorial Director

4L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Caresse Stick in Blushing Sequin, $9.47

Christina Wolfgram

I’m not the type of person to watch a commercial and be like, “Gimme gimme!” Yet, a few years ago, while watching a L’Oreal commercial in between my viewing of That ’70s Show reruns, something. happened. to. me. I saw a lipstick that made me run to Google. It was a shade of pink that captivated me, turning me into Sleeping Beauty just before she reaches for the spindle. It was the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Caresse Stick in the hue “Blushing Sequin.” Based on the name alone, I knew we were meant to be together — and it’s my favorite please-make-me-look-alive lipstick to this day. — Anna Gragert, Associate Editor

5 Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Candy, $24

Christina Wolfgram

My ride-or-die lipstick isn’t actually a lipstick at all. It’s Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment, which is more of a tinted balm. But it’s unlike any other lip produce I’ve used. It scores 10s across the board for me: ultra-hydrating, perfect pigment, incredible scent. I used to swear by the rose shade, but now I’ve gotten hooked on the “Candy” color. It’s a pretty Pepto pink that goes with almost all my outfits. Bonus: The stick comes in a generous size, so this thing lasts me a looong time before I wear it down to a nub. — Emily Popp, Deputy Editor

6Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain in Salsa, $12

Christina Wolfgram

My all-time favorite lipstick (or my majority-of-the-time favorite lipstick, since I’m now #blessed and able to experiment with lots of free lipsticks at work) is Makeup Geek’s Showstopper Creme Stain in “Salsa.” In its container, the shade is a vibrant orange. But when I apply the color to my lips, it looks like a vivacious shade of red — which I thoroughly appreciate as someone who loves red lipstick, is pale af, and always tired. It brings some energy and ~a pop of color~ to my look, which then actually makes me feel more awake, confident, and put together. The first time I wore it to the office, I received more compliments on my makeup than ever before — and as someone who loves makeup but is also kinda intimidated by it, that moment cemented it for me as my shade. Plus, it’s cruelty-free, which is very important to me. — Rachel Sanoff, Features Editor

7 NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Hyde Park, $27

Christina Wolfgram

As a makeup late-bloomer who only started experimenting with lipstick after college, I love easy-to-apply lipstick in pencil and crayon form, especially NARS lip pencils. Their satin lip pencil in “Hyde Park” is my favorite low-maintenance red: I can put it on without any extra tools or products, it lasts forever, and it makes me feel more advanced with makeup than I actually am. — Mia Nakaji Monnier, Copy Editor

8Urban Decay Sheer Revolution in Shame, $10

Christina Wolfgram

Urban Decay’s Sheer Revolution “Shame” lipstick is the formula that keeps on giving. This color is so good that I’ve written about it before, so relentlessly fuchsia that I feel like a fucking superhero when I wear it (the power of cranberry lips compels you). The color is one that you can deepen to any shade of deep pink. I’ve never applied more than 81 or so coats at once, but I’m sure you could go deeper. Sometimes I swipe on just one layer for a sweetly bitten look. It’s the lipstick I reach for again and again, so I guess it’s my favorite. I even tried the opaque version of the color, Urban Decay’s Revolution “Shame” lipstick, but it’s not the same. Sheer Shame is the one, and there’s no shame in my game when I wear it. — Nicole Adlman, Senior Editor

9Milk Makeup Lip Color in O.G. Red, $22

Christina Wolfgram

My all-time favorite lipstick (so far!) has to go to Milk’s O.G. Red. The color is super rich and vibrant, classic and retro. It’s the perfect pop of color that compliments any look. Plus, it’s long-lasting and easy to apply. I almost always find a way to smear lipstick — I’ve been defeated by many a sandwich — but this one just won’t budge. And for that, I love it, love it, love it, and you will too. — Molly Smith, Assistant Entertainment Editor
