Here's what you need to recreate the 10 coolest makeup looks from NYFW
Fashion week is a time of inspiration. Whether it’s the fashion, beauty, or production of the shows, NYFW never ceases to illuminate the opportunities for creativity in our daily lives that are too often overlooked. Although there were many makeup looks coming down the NYFW runway this time around, they all had something in common: a fresh, natural base, featuring healthy, glowing skin. But many of these natural looks were amped up with something truly special and unforgettable.
At Desigual and Prabal Gurung, it was a precisely placed, unexpected line above the eye. Carmen Marc Valvo, Christian Siriano, and Oscar da la Renta adorned models with fresh, bright shadows. This year’s runway makeup was dominated by interesting eyes, but bold lips played an important role as well. At many shows, bare eyes were paired with a bright pair of red or crimson lips, and dark, glossy pouts were abundant.
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate 10 of the coolest makeup looks from this year’s shows.
This beautiful look from Nicholas K is called “Golden Rebel.” To create this elegant eye, line the entire perimeter of your eyes with a gold, shimmery liner. Use a gel liner, like the Nars Eye Paint in Iskandar and an angled liner brush.
According to the makeup artist, Pep Gay, the actual products used to create this Twiggy meets ’90s redux look are all from MAC. However, if you’d like to recreate this look on a budget, the NYX Cosmetics Liquid Crystal Liner will get the job done! Apply glitter liner to the lower lash line and inner corners of the eye, and top it off with several coats of thickening mascara.
3Oscar de la Renta
These cotton candy eyes at Oscar de la Renta have already inspired tons of Instagram makeup posts. ColourPop Cosmetics makes two highly pigmented shadows that are perfect for this look — Slave2Pink and Coconut, which is a bright teal. You’ll need to wet an angled brush to create a bright, smooth line.
The models at Malan Breton were the epitome of classic glamour. To create this look, worthy of Hedy Lamarr herself, fill in your lower waterline with white liner, and apply a high shine lip color, like the Yves Saint Laurent Vinyl Cream Lip Stain in Burgundy Vibes!
If you’ve had enough of your red lip, take that pop of color to your eyes! Lipsticks, however, likely won’t adhere well to the this area, since they’re not made to work with the oils your skin produces throughout the day. Instead, use a red cream shadow. The Makeup Forever Aqua Cream comes in 26 waterproof shades.
Who needs liner when you’ve got lashes like these? To get the look, apply individual lashes to your lower lid. For a more tone-downed version of the look, simply choose shorter lashes.
At first glance, the crisp, dark lips seem like the focus of this look. But, a second glance at the models’ eyes reveals a pearl in each corner. Imagine wearing these with minimal makeup and a simple, black dress — a look that’s anything but boring. These Self Adhesive Pearl Face Blings are safe for skin and easy to apply.
Like at many other shows, pink was not reserved for the lips and cheeks at Lanyu. To get these bright brows without bleaching, you’ll need to choose a brow product pigmented enough to cover your natural hair. Anastasia Hypercolor Brow and Hair Powder is intended to do just that! This product works best applied with an angled brush, which can be wet first for an even more intense result.
This understated white line draws attention to the eyes with minimal makeup. Use an eye crayon, like NYX’s Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, to create this look. Be sure to follow the natural line of the bottom your brow bone to get that clean finish.
10Carmen Marc Valvo
At Carmen Marc Valvo, the models’ eyes shone as brightly as the sunrise. The trick to creating this look is careful blending. Start by applying a red shadow to the outer corner of the eye. Next, apply an orange shadow to the center of the eye. Finish off the look by applying a bright, yellow shadow to the inner corner, and blend it all out. The Pressed Eyeshadow from Sugarpill in Love+, Flamepoint, and Buttercupcake are the perfect shades for this sunny look!
