If you’re a makeup devotee, then most likely you’re waiting for Halloween with breath that is bated so you can show off your latest wild techniques and styles. It’s such a fun opportunity to really go crazy and stretch your skills. It’s also a great cop out for those of us with good makeup skills who are super lazy about finding new costumes! Sometimes all you need is some face paint and you’re good to go — whether you’re spooky or sweet! I know I’ve mentioned about a million times that I always cop out and go as Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest, but, you guys? It’s the easiest costume in the world. Slap on some white makeup, red lipstick, and draw on some crazy eyebrows and you’re done.

Paramount Pictures

But I’d venture to say that my best Halloween makeup effort is from about five years back, when I had a couple last-minute parties to go to, but no costume. My sister had a Southern belle-type hoop skirt dress that was absolutely amazing, but the year before when she had worn it at a party, a cat sat on her dress and got it’s period all over it, so the dress was covered in cat blood stains. Never one to be deterred, I added more fake blood splashes all over the dress and did some pretty excellent (if I do say so myself) zombie makeup, and went as Zombie Scarlet O’Hara. Iconic.

You don’t need professional stage makeup or costume makeup to create some really great Halloween looks either. You can just pop over to your drugstore and use the makeup that you have available to you there! Lucky for us, the quality of makeup available at drugstores has gone way up, with tons of choices at reasonable prices. What more could we want?

Here are some Halloween makeup ideas for you to roll around in your brain!
