Makeup brand Beautiful Rights is donating 20% of its sales to the women's rights charity of your choice
There have been countless T-shirts, sweatshirts, totes, and other bits of memorabilia marketed recently to support activist causes — “Nevertheless, she persisted” T-shirts might ring a bell! — and we’re super on board with all of them. And now, beauty mavens can get in on the action with Beautiful Rights, a makeup brand that donates 20% of its sales — not its profits, which means it gives a sizable chunk of its change — to organizations that support women’s rights.
Even cooler than that? When you make a purchase, you choose where you want your money to go from a list of six organizations: Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, MomsRising, EMILY’s list, Lambda Legal, and Legal Momentum. We can’t argue with that!
The online-only company, which makes its cruelty-free products in New York City, was founded by beauty industry veteran Kristen Leonard and launched just three weeks after she conceived the idea.
“I’ve always wanted to have a brand, but there was just never anything that moved me enough to go out there and just do it,” she said in an interview with Coveteur. “Then the election happened. And I got real fired up. And, if I’m being honest, I had a couple glasses of wine one night, and I had made a donation to Planned Parenthood. And I started thinking, ‘One donation, what is that going to do?'”
