Finding Dory is coming out really soon and fans of the optimistic (if forgetful) blue tang fish are starting to really get creative about showing their excitement. Some are even finding ways to become more like Dory by, well, transforming themselves to look exactly like Dory.

That’s at least what YouTube makeup artist Chrisspy has done in her latest tutorial.

Yep, that’s a person not a fish.

Watching her break down how she absolutely nailed this incredible transformation is fascinating. First, she secures down all her pesky flyaway hairs (because Dory doesn’t have hair!) by gluing down here eyebrows and securing on a bald cap. She’s meticulous about preparing her face to become what she calls a “blank canvas” so the colorful makeover can begin.

After sketching out the general outline of where she wants everything to go, she begins the colorful process of painting it. The outline is important because Dory’s face is (I mean, obviously) not exactly shaped like a human. So if you want to get that same flat, angular look, you’ve got to outline your face for that specific perspective (which means, basically, only covering up three quarters of the whole face).

Within no time, she’s masterfully used both paint and shadows to create a dynamic, realistic, totally Dory-looking face. The final touches for the face itself included filling in her open and smiling mouth while adding the adorable detail of her teeth.

Once all the (incredible) details are painted onto her face, including the black paint to cover up the skin (and face) surrounding her, it’s time to give the 3D look that will really sell the look. She blew up and printed an actual picture of Dory, then cut out the tail and fins to give the finishing touch to this impressive work of art. She simply bobby pinned the tail into her bald cap then used liquid latex on her cheeks for the fins.

She makes the whole creation so effortless and is so matter-of-fact about how she did it, it seems like it’s completely doable for anyone (even though this obviously takes a huge amount of creativity and talent). Even if you aren’t brave enough to attempt it, watching a woman change into your favorite fish right before your eyes will not be something you regret spending your time on.
