Blush Was Never My Thing Until I Tried This Cream-Based One
Here's why this Fenty blush is perfect for beginners.
I’ll admit: I never understood the hype behind blush. So many makeup artists and beauty influencers have dubbed blush an essential part of any makeup routine, but I never saw the need to add it to my own. It’s not that I didn’t like the flush of color it gave other people’s cheeks, I just thought it might look a bit unnatural on me—like I had painted two colorful circles on my cheeks. But when the Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush launched, I felt compelled to give blush a try, and now I'm a total blush stan.
There are so many different types of blush, ranging from powders to serums, but I was intrigued by the creamy texture of this Fenty pick. As a beginner, I felt that a cream-based formula would be easier to control and build on—and it was. It comes in 10 shades, but I picked it up in Summertime Wine (a beautiful shimmery berry color). The bold pigment looks a bit intimidating in the pan, but since it's a buildable formula you can keep it sheer or layer it for a bolder finish. Even more impressive: It’s sweat and water-resistant, so it’s been perfect for these hot and humid days.

To apply, you can either use a blush brush or your fingers. I like to take the quick and easy route, so I typically opt for the latter method and pat one fingertip into the product and then tap it onto the apples of my cheek. If I feel the pigment is too intense, I take a clean finger and blend it out for a more natural flush. The formula feels lightweight on my face and it melts right into the skin without leaving a greasy, oily residue behind like other blushes do. Instead, it delivers a natural wash of color that makes me look awake and fresh.
The Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush touts itself as a multi-purpose product, so I’ve found multiple ways to incorporate it into my beauty looks. Lately, I’ve been applying it on my lips and eyes for an extra pop of color. I would’ve never thought that blush would become my summertime makeup obsession, but now I wear it all the time, even if I’m just snapping selfies or sitting on Zoom calls.
