Courteney Cox got super real about using facial fillers, saying, "I was trying to keep up"
We adored her for playing the role of the lovable but kind of neurotic Monica Geller on Friends, and in almost 15 years, our love for Courteney Cox has only grown. In a very honest interview, Cox opened up about her beauty regrets and the negative pressures of working in Hollywood. At 53, the actress is more comfortable in her skin than ever before, but she isn’t afraid to admit it wasn’t always that way.
The star recently graced the cover of NewBeauty magazine, and during her interview she said that in an effort to “keep up” with the ever-changing industry, she decided to use facial fillers. But Cox came to the realization that she wasn’t actually happier with the way she looked.
“The next thing you know, you’re layered and layered and layered. You have no idea because it’s gradual until you go, ‘Oh sh*t, this doesn’t look right.’ And it’s worse in pictures than in real life,” she continued.
Cox admitted that it wasn’t until a friend pointed out to her that she no longer looked like herself and insisted she was “doing too much” that she decided to take a different approach. (Because what are friends for if not to be honest with us when no one else will?)
Before adding, “I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend.”
And while Courteney admits confidence “comes and goes,” she has found ways to be at peace with herself. Which we think is amazing.
We’re so happy that Courteney shared her journey to self-love, because we could all use a little reminder from time to time.
