This behind-the-scenes “Beauty and the Beast” clip proves that the making of the movie was also enchanting

Though Beauty and the Beast has a healthy, helping hand from CGI, a new behind-the-scenes clip from the film affirms that much of the onscreen magic was very, very real. And in this case, we’re talking about the large-scale dance numbers.

The video shows how Beauty and the Beast blended the artfulness of old-school, big-ballroom style choreographed dances with the computer-generated Beast, played by Dan Stevens.

Plus, Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor, and Emma Thompson talk about what it was like to film those sequences, and that they realized how special the live-action adaptation was while they were making it.

Watson begins by talking about how she loves to dance — good thing, because the film is loaded with fancy footwork — and how she particularly loved the heartfelt dance between Beast and Belle. Not only is it one of the most iconic moments of both this and the 1991 animated film, but it’s also the scene in which Belle rocks her famous yellow gown.

McGregor and Thompson, meanwhile, loved the large dance sequence at the end of the film.

Without giving away any spoilers, there’s a beautiful number with the entire cast that’s set in a ballroom and filled with extravagantly dressed professional dancers. McGregor loved the Hollywood-style glamour of the costumed ensemble dancing in sync with each other, and Thompson appreciated the grandeur of it all.

Knowing the actors realized how extraordinary the film was throughout the making — and dancing — makes us love Beauty and the Beast even more.
