You can sing along with the Beatles in this one-time-only free YouTube event

Fans of the Beatles’ psychedelic 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine will want to set aside a couple hours on Saturday, April 25th. At noon ET, Yellow Submarine will air for free on the Beatles‘ official YouTube channel. And this isn’t just a free movie event. Do your vocal warmups because it’s a singalong.

While watching Yellow Submarine, fans will see lyrics pop up at the bottom of the screen each time one of the Beatles’ famous tracks begins to play. The hope is that Beatles fans worldwide can come together at the same time and sing to their hearts’ content.

Yellow Submarine was the fourth Beatles-themed film to hit theaters, following A Hard Day’s Night, Help!, and Magical Mystery Tour. It has received critical acclaim and is much loved by fans thanks to its score.

The singalong will include Beatles classics like “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” and, of course, “Yellow Submarine.”

Ironically enough, although Yellow Submarine is, perhaps, the Beatles’ most adored film among their fandom, the actual band members—Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison—had little to do with the actual production, save for the final scene. They didn’t even lend their own voices to their animated characters. You can only hear their voices in those aforementioned songs.

While watching and singing along come April 25th at noon, pretend that the coronavirus is the dreaded Blue Meanies and their bonkers cohorts, and sing with the Beatles to bring Pepperland back to its full-color beauty through song.
