So, this bear broke into a bakery and ate all the pies
It’s official — we’ve found our kindred spirit. A hungry bear burglarized a bakery in Lyons, Colorado and stole the most delicious loot. The bear broke into the family run Colorado Cherry Company and ate 24 pies and several bags of cocoa and sugar. Uh, that’s a lot of pie, bear. It’s no secret that bears like pie (shout out to Yogi Bear), but 24 seems excessive. He was either really hungry, or maybe he just loves pie. A bear after our own hearts!
The mischievous bear entered the bakery by breaking a window, climbing through and stepping on an oven, before finding his way over to the pies. He’s clearly a bear who knows what he likes, because he was very particular about the type of pie he wanted nothing to do with. “He went for the apple and the cherry and left behind the strawberry rhubarb, so he was a picky little guy,” the owner’s daughter, Mikaela Lehnert told The Guardian.
Unfortunately for us, the bakery’s surveillance cameras didn’t catch the thief in action, because none of them were facing the direction of the crime scene. So either the bear was auditioning for Oceans 14 or he just got lucky. After he ate all 24 pies, he took two to go and escaped through the window he entered through.
Here’s some of the wreckage:
Aside from the broken window and pie crumbs, the bear didn’t cause any damage, but the owners still plan on getting all new windows — just in case the bear comes back for round two. “We have a feeling he knows it’s here so he’s going to come back,” Lehnert said. Where there is pie, there is bear — apparently.
The family isn’t too upset with the bear, because the story has brought a lot of attention to their bakery. “If anything it’s boosted [our business] because it put our pies and product out there,” Lehnert said.
So moral of this story? Pies are delicious and bear necessities.
