“BB tea” may be the new BB cream

We’ve all had those days when we wake up, look in the mirror, notice that a presumptuous pimple sprouted overnight, and scream this at our skin: “What do I need to do to make you happy?!” To deal with such a dilemma, maybe you use your fave acne treatment, cover the problem with makeup, or you may even opt to pop it. However, there might be another way and it involves something called a BB tea.

No, we’re not talking BB creams here (which are products that moisturize, prime, and protect the skin). Instead, we’re referring to a beverage that’s meant to keep your skin happy – starting on the inside. “It’s packed with antioxidants called catechins and polyphenols, which help protect skin from UV radiation by decreasing the chances of sunburn,” dermatologist Dr. Rachel Nazarian (who works at Schweiger Dermatology Group) told Marie Claire. “And like other anti-oxidants, they help decrease redness and inflammation.”

If you’re searching for a popular BB tea, look no further than Kusmi Tea’s “BB Detox.” According to their website, it contains green tea, maté, rooibos, guarana, and dandelion. It’s also flavored with a hint of grapefruit. One study has found that green tea is great for our skin and that it can even protect against cancer. Since rooibos is rich in the nutrients alpha hydroxy acid and zinc, this ingredient is believed to help with inflammation and uneven skin. Plus, dandelion provides the skin with hydration.

As for its taste, I personally found the tea to be both light and refreshing. It wasn’t too strong and it had a slight sweetness to it (probably the grapefruit). Even though I only drank it once, I noticed that it made me feel calm. It also left my palette feeling cleansed after only one sip. Plus, it definitely didn’t hurt my skin and, overall, I would totally drink it again – especially if I’m having a bad skin day.

Now that we have BB creams and BB teas, when can we expect to get BB cakes? BB donuts? BB pizzas?
