Baseball season is coming and stadiums have gone overboard inventing new foods
The best part of going to baseball games is the food. OK fine, for some people it’s the baseball. But for so many of us, the actual game takes a backseat to the hotdogs, peanuts and cracker jacks. But it’s no longer just about the classic baseball food. Stadiums have officially gone overboard inventing new foods for the adoring baseball/food fans, and they’re knocking the creations out of the park.
Baseball stadiums are giving state and county fairs a run for their money, but not necessarily in a good way. The extremely high caloric food isn’t exactly healthy. In fact, the “healthiest” ingredients you’ll find on most of the new food additions are jalapeños.
Here are a few of the food items you can expect at certain stadiums throughout America. Because America loves baseball and insane food concoctions, apparently.
Burgerizza
At an Atlanta Braves game at Turner Field, for the high price of $26, you can eat your way through a 20-ounce hamburger patty layered with five bacon strips and sandwiched between two eight-inch pepperoni pizzas. It’s not for the faint of heart. Or for any heart, really.
Punisher
Atlanta is really kicking it up a notch, as the same stadium is offering another heart-stopping sandwich. Country-fried smoked rib meat covered in a Monster energy drink-infused BBQ sauce, topped with beer-battered onion and “slawsa,” in between a toasted and buttered Hawaiian bun and pinned in place with two slices of bacon.
Hill Meatball Cone
Four meatballs slathered in marinara sauce, topped with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese and served in an Italian bread cone. You can get your very own meatball cone at Busch Stadium — home of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Buffalo Chicken Bloody Mary
Deep inside Target Field, Minnesota Twins fans can have their very own Bloody Mary, which comes with an 8-ounce Bud Light, and is topped with buffalo chicken, a bacon cheeseburger, some cheese squares and a vegetable or two. At least they’re hitting a few different food groups.
Cracker Jack and Mac Dog
For fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates who can’t decide between a hot dog, Cracker Jacks and Mac & Cheese when they’re watching their favorite team play at PNC Park, they can now have all of those things in one dish. No word on whether or not it comes with a toy buried in there somewhere.
Sweet Potato Waffle Chicken Sandwich
The Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park offer a homemade sweet potato waffle with grilled chicken breast, Greek yogurt, baby spinach and sliced tomatoes. This one doesn’t seem toooooo terribly bad for human ingestion, but do we really need to eat a gourmet waffle sandwich while watching baseball?
While the new baseball food might be delicious, it seems a bit too gimmicky. When we go to a baseball game this season, we’re going to stick with a good ole fashioned hot dog. Maybe with ketchup AND mustard, depending on how wild we’re feeling.
