A few reasons why we’re seriously excited about the new show ‘Barely Famous’

There’s a brand new reality show that you need to add to your must-watch list immediately: Barely Famous. But, OK, calling it a reality show isn’t really fair, because it’s not like The Bachelor or Real Housewives or DWTS. It’s more like a “documentary,” but a hilarious documentary that plays like a reality show. OK, maybe it’s like if The O.C. had been super self-aware about the fact that there were cameras everywhere, and Ryan and Marissa spent the episodes making lots of jokes.

You know what? Too hard to explain. Barely Famous is all-around amazing, and trying to explain too much of it will just ruin how great it is for you. The first episode is available FOR FREE on iTunes and you need to check it out ASAP. But if you need more convincing to watch, we’ve provided you with just a few reasons we’re psyched about it.

It follows real life sisters Erin and Sara Foster

Their dad is music producer David Foster (but, don’t show his picture, it’s not about him). So, the girls are very much aware of the “Hollywood lifestyle” and how ridiculous it can be. They also play themselves, or slightly exaggerated versions of themselves, as they try to do normal mundane non-Hollywood things, like date regular non-Hollywood guys.

But it is NOT a reality show

Within the first few seconds of the show, it is made entirely clear that the sisters are being followed by a camera crew, and Entourage‘s Kevin Connolly doesn’t get it. What’s not to get? Isn’t it OK to be followed by a camera crew as you go for your morning jog? There’s nothing too weird about that, Kevin.

It’s full of famous people we love

And everyone is  playing an exaggerated version of themselves. Nicole Richie shows up during Erin’s date with a guy from the Apple Store, to talk about James Franco. Kate Hudson swipes a pocketbook out from underneath Sara. Also to come this season: Jessica Alba, Courney Cox, Molly Sims, Ashley Benson . . . we’re sure there will be other rad cameos too.

We get to follow along with Sara and Erin’s quest for some sort of fame

Erin’s a writer, Sara’s an actress, and they’re trying to make Hollywood work for them. Even though most of the time it fails horribly. Like the time Sara hired a paparazzi to take pictures of her pumping gas and washing a car – and even the paparazzi isn’t exactly sure what to make of the situation.

The show is laugh out loud funny, for real

A lot of shows claim to be LOL-worthy, but Barely Famous actually is. They can’t even get through their talking heads/confessional portions of the show, without one girl interrupting the other or sticking her head into the frame. So much of the show relies on the relationship between the sisters, which is amazing. We’re willing — and totally eager — to follow them wherever they end up going.
