Barack Obama shared his favorite songs of 2017, and yep, he still has great taste

We already knew that former President Barack Obama, aka our homeboy Barry (in our heads, at least), has exceptionally good taste in music. And now,  Obama’s list of favorite songs from 2017 has definitely reaffirmed that. During his time in office, POTUS 44 often took time out to share his reading lists and #nowplaying tracks with his followers via social media. So much so that he even earned the title “President of Playlists” for his dedication to sharing his favorite workout jams and lazy summer beats.

On New Year’s Eve, Barack Obama continued the tradition by sharing the books and tracks he loved during his first year out of the White House.

“During my presidency, I started a tradition of sharing my reading lists and playlists,” he wrote on Facebook. “It was a nice way to reflect on the works that resonated with me and lift up authors and artists from around the world. With some extra time on my hands this year to catch up, I wanted to share the books and music that I enjoyed most. From songs that got me moving to stories that inspired me, here’s my 2017 list — I hope you enjoy it and have a happy and healthy New Year.”

The 56-year-old clearly has an eclectic taste in music.

In 2017, he listened to everything from Jay-Z and Beyoncé to Chris Stapleton. We’re not at all surprised by some of Barry’s picks; after all, he has always expressed his love of hip-hop. Classic Obama faves include Chance the Rapper, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar.

But there were a few surprises on the list, like Camila Cabello’s “Havana” and “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles.

It also seems like Obama is also totally digging Jay-Z’s “Family Feud” off the rapper’s 4:44 album. The “Family Feud” video, directed by award-winning director Ava DuVernay, dropped on December 29th. It features appearances from A-listers like Michael B. Jordan, Mindy Kaling, Constance Wu, Rashida Jones, Jessica Chastain, and Rosario Dawson. And let’s not forget his wife Beyoncé.

And of course, the King of Keys, DJ Khaled, made the list with “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. It was one of the year’s biggest party anthems.

After seeing Barack Obama’s awesome musical picks, we can’t help but wonder if he utilized these excellent mixtape-making skills while wooing former First Lady Michelle. Perhaps there is a bonus Southside with You scene out there featuring young Barry sitting in front of a boombox, creating magic for his lady love.

Here’s hoping. But until we get the answers we seek, we’ll kick off 2018 by enjoying Obama’s choices.
