Barack and Michelle Obama both landed book deals, and we’re SO ready to have them back in our lives
They’ve been on vacation for what feels like 1,000 years now (and, honestly, we don’t blame them) but the former president and first lady are finally coming back into our lives, and they’re doing it with dramatic flourish. Yesterday, Barack and Michelle Obama signed book deals with Penguin Random House — and we can’t wait to get an inside look at their lives in the White House, and find out what exactly they’ve been up to since they flew the coop.
Penguin Random House, which has published all three of Barack Obama’s previous books and Michelle Obama’s book about the White House garden, American Grown, says that it will donate one million copies of the books to several nonprofit groups, including First Book, an organization that offers free books to disadvantaged kids. The Obamas will also donate a “significant portion” of their advance to charity, according to a report from NPR.
“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama. With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same,” said Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House in a statement.
"Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance."
Now if only we could convince them to come back and run the country again…
